Hey guys, been a while since I got on here, V10 is running great. Up til recently its been fine, now it has this tick/knock throughout the power band. It mainly does it under 2500 RPM....I noticed its also starting to burn oil. i burn a quart every 3k miles. I am sure its not leaking. But its going somewhere.
It is driving me nuts cause its top end noise. Is it possible I got a pushrod or something going out, idk how these newer engines work very well. Is this engine a pushrod engine or does it run the rockers on cams?
Any advice would be great.
Specs:
2000 F-250 Triton V10

Exhaust manifolds are in great shape.
If it were me, I'd do a compression check. Burning oil means either ring/piston/cylinder-wall issues, or it's running very rich in one or more cylinders and washing the oil off the cylinder walls - which will eventually cause ring/piston/cylinder-wall issues
If you go this route, as you pull the plugs, number them and keep them so you can tell which ones are rich/lean/cruddy/whatever.
Not sure about the oil burning, though. Some people here says 1 qt between oil changes is not unusual. I use Mobil synthetic and I usually have to top it off after 3k miles.
I'm running the Castro synthetic blend. I don't think its timing chain because it comes and goes. I also don't think its the spark plugs because it would have tossed it already. This started almost 10k miles ago...... it hasn't harmed the engine's power. I heard somewhere that the rocker arms can start ticking as higher miles mount up. Like I said it comes and goes. I like the comment of the oil consumption. What causes these engines to run rich?? MAF sensor? Does this have a IAC valve? What sensors would cause it to run rich ? Is it possible its injectors?

^^^^ This is almost word for word my truck!!!
Exhaust manifolds are perfect, new plugs and coils.
5 OEM COP's, 5 Accel COP's
Tick sounds like one cylinder loudest under 2500rpm, but is also audible above 3500.

Suggested milage for replacement? Just hit 161,000 miles.
Came on suddenly awhile ago.
Well my thread is old....but its still true, I found that the oil level corrosponds to the ticking.... The ticking is gone if you rev the engine a little bit.
