Does anyone have a pic or the exact location of the rear view mirror location on the 1953 f100. I'd like to install the chrome one but it looks as though the hole in the door has been covered and painted.
Thanks in advance!
This is the best I can do. Hope it helps. Also, it bolts through the door so there should be two bolt holes showing on the edge of the door (unless they welded/covered those too). You might be able to get an idea of where they fit by using that as a reference point. Good luck.
Thanks Treardropty. This should help. I do have the two holes in the door jamb (they are in a recessed area) pretty much in line with where your mirror is. I will take some measurements and attempt to cut the hole.
Thanks again
No problem. When I am searching through good metal I start with a small 1/8" drill bit, hope I hit somewhere the hole should be and widen it out as I go. Just remember that mirror arm bracket is at an angle. Good luck!
Would it be easier/better to drill from the inside to out through where the mirror arm holder goes through to make sure you know where the slot should be, rather than a hit and miss approach from the outside of the door?

Abe, that would be ideal, however, every one I have seen is enclosed. There is no hole on the inside that lines up, just 2 bolts that go through it.
Yes, you are right, thanks to your neat diagram, now that I think about it...
thanks
Heck I had to think about it. It's been over 8 months since I last messed with the mirror bracket and my beloved trucks are sitting in hibernation until March.
Thanks Teardropty and Abe your info will be helpful. Today I found a remanufactured door at the Zepherhills swap meet and was able to take some good measurements and photos of the slot. I purchased the new mirror and will attempt the surgery tomorrow afternoon. I will be sure to let you all know how it comes out.
Thanks again for the assistance.
