I wasn't quite sure where to post this since I am new to the forum, but I need some advice. Be gentle with me because I am not a mechanic, but I know some basics. Here is the deal (history of the issues), I have a 2000 Ranger 2.5l, 4 cyl. Not long after the truck was purchased, there was a recall for the EGR valve, we took it in had that replaced, no issues. Well 2 years ago we had the P0401 code pop up, we replaced the DPFE and it seemed to fix things. Well a couple of weeks ago the code popped up again, we erased it and it came back a week or 2 later, along with the truck shuddering when the engine is cold. My husband said once the engine warms up the shuddering goes away. To make it more complicated it doesn't always shudder like that, seems to be intermittent. The point i am getting at is does anyone have any idea what could cause this problem? Does it sound like the DPFE again? Or something else we are missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
It is an aftermarket part, no the passages haven't been cleaned. And none of the sensors that I know of have been changed, I will have to ask my father about the sensors to be sure since he was the one who previously owned the truck.
Non-OEM DPFE sensors often behave like an old plugged faulty Motorcraft one. Why by a new part that is functionally identical to the faulty one.
Best to stick with a genuine Motorcraft replacement. Chances are a new Motorcraft one will take care of the problem, but while you have it off, check the passages to make sure they are not plugged.
Thanks so much for the response! I will definately give that a shot. Because it does seem to be acting alot like it did before we changed the DPFE last time. I didn't realize the aftermarket parts could go bad so quickly. I guess you get what you pay for, huh!?! Thanks again!
