Camshaft Position Sensor Help

I have a 2000 4.2 f150 i just bought. I had to replace the motor in it and the motor I got was missing the Camshaft Position Sensor. I have looked at many forums but cant really find a lot about it. I did take the one out of the motor that was pulled from the truck and got it into the new motor. But I didnt know that you was suppose to have a special tool to do it, it came out pretty easy and went in pretty easy. I put it back in about the same spot it came out of and lined the washer back on the senor, you could see where it was before with the dirt around the area. My question is do I need to time this somehow or is there anything I can do so get it back where it needs to be, I dont know if #1 was at top dead center as well I am guessing not since i didnt check that, should I pull it back out and get it to TDC then try put it back in. I will go get the peace if I need to that would not be a problem as well if its not to late.

Look into a Haynes soft cover manuel for 97-03 F150 trucks, page 6-11/12 for how to place and position the unit.
It controls fuel injection timing.
Good luck.
