We have a 2001 Ford F150 full size pickup truck. We had the CEL come on and had it checked and it came out to be the idler cam sensor. We bought a camshaft sensor and took the old on off. When we went to put the new one in, it just wont go down on it all the way. We thought it might be the wrong part, so we took the old one and new oneback to the parts store and they said they are the same thing. Same part! But, we just can no get it to go back on it. Would it be possible that the "C" shaped thing in it, is not in the right position? The "C" is half off to one side and half near the opening. Can we just bump the motor over and get the "C" in whatever position it is suppose to be in? Or what do we do?
It sounds like you are just changing the black top and not the whole assembly. Check the C to see if it moves from side to side the bearing may be loose and the C is off center this would keep the top from going down. You may need the whole assembly. Note this needs to be timed.
ktnstubblefield did you get the problem fixed. also any particular reason why you changed sensor did you scan some codes etc..?? i have a problem with a code p0340 engine stalls, shudder etc. i plan on doing the sensor swap but 1st need to trouble shoot 1st for shorts on wirin then sensor then just alignment on sensor sync. dont know yet what the problem is
