I have not seen anything lately, but I need to install a new crank sensor in a 90 ranger. Ford says use tool # t89p6316a, which I do not have. This tool is to set an air gap in the hall-effect pickup/sensor. Im hoping someone can help me with a correct air gap...I' m getting roughly .040 on the old one as it sits now. Thnx.
Have not purchased sensor yet, however I have scavenged one from a blown motor. I'm having trouble with erratic timing on a cold start...once I've run the engine no other symptoms occur other than bad mileage. I am going to ohm out the packs first, and then check my sensor with scavenged one. If i find a different value, I'm gonna swap it. I think I can get close enough with a feeler gauge if I cant locate the tool.
I know our trucks (see sig) have a CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor). It is spose to have a tool or some special calibrating way to install it. I have found that it is "splitting hairs" and hopefully this sensor is the same way for you all. (I really don't know...just tryen to give you some supportive thoughts). For the most part we just pop the old one out and snug the new one in. The "book" says you should do all this other shtuff but no one ever does (that I know of). I would just try to install and see what happens. Good luck and let us know what you find/happens.
