New Guy Build

Joined this site a few months ago to ask a few questions on where to begin on the rebuild of my dads ol 64 f100. We finally got the time and interest to put his truck back together. Heres a pic of how it sits now, and for the past 20 years.

Believe it or not this is after I cleaned up the garage around the front end, where my dad and I plan to start. After weeks of deciding what to with the steering we have decided on this

This is from Performanceonline.com theirs one that seems to be exactly like it from no limit engineering but $50 more. This is a rack and pinion power steering kit for 57-64s. thought about buying a hydraulic booster for the original steering but figured this would be best. Already ordered the power disk brake kit tonight from classic performance i think it was.
Going to order the steering kit tomorrow. If you have any experience on the steering or tips please advise.
After getting everything outta the way of the front end we went ahead and dropped the axle tonight.

Lots of work and pictures as it comes along. Any tips or comments are appreciated.
Thanks
Hunter

Ok got a few updates and questions for you guys. Got the bed cleaned out of the truck and most if the stuff out found some brand knew parts just small things in the the bed like new mirrors taillight lens door handles and other things all in ford original boxes. We're planning on going to the f100 meet or show in pigeon forge tn sometime in may I think it's like the weekend of the 17th or something. We're planning on buying to fenders and a radiator support and possible the power rack and pinion steering kit. Found a magazine that sells the fenders and radiator supports for like 900$ I think.will look at brand forgot at moment what magazine it was in. Just curious about the fit of replacement body parts like that any experience? I think lmc said they would match advertise price. Any suggestions. Also what should I be looking at when I go to this f100 show
Thanks guys
Hunter

Good luck with your truck. Most/all of the body repop sheetmetal is coming in from China - likely one source no matter who you buy it from. I bought an inner fender panel and fender (they were on opposite sides) for my 62 and had no trouble with either fitment. That being said I bought a hood hinge repop and it was an absolute bear to make fit. So look at the pieces as carefully as you can - have measurements to compare to or if you can have the originals with you...

Millertime.
I found a new radiator support online for a 62 4x4 for $300 but shipping is $125 unless you can pick it up or buy a high dollar amount. If you are buying on line, ask if they will have vendors at the show and you can pick up the parts at the show or another show near you. You may want to check the vendor list that supports this forum first.

You may want to check with a good local body man before you replace a high dollar item, they can do a lot of work for $200 which is what it costs for some inner fenders which are easily repairable.

At the shows.... watch out for people selling things they think is correct but is not. For example, someone may think they have a 65 grill because they took it off a 65 but it is not. Take pictures of what you want to replace with your cell phone and use it to compare everything before you buy. Some items you may want to measure and take the numbers with you.

Good luck,

Rear end question

Hey guys think for the input. We would up buying two front fenders two inbred and a rad suppport new for a reasonable price from classic I believe. Just ordered the power rack and pinion the guys at the f100 show said they really liked it so well see.
Do I want some lower gears for my 9" rear more like 3.73 or something. I found one at a junkyard on a 84 9". Will the pumpkin be a stair swap. Or would it have to be off of the narrow 9"
Thanks guys for all the help so far

Hey guys I was wondering if any of you have had any problem with the power disc brake kits. I got mine from speedway and now my tirods are touching the inside of the rim. The toros is in as far as it can go and really would like a better option than wheels spacers but will use if my only options. Any suggestions?

What rims are you using?

And are you using the tie rod ends from the power rack?

Are the tie rod ends fully seated.

Did the rack mount to the axle? Some pictures of just what is happening will help.

You may need to ream or modify the spindle mounts supplied with your kit to get them to seat deeper.

The company engineered them to only work with 16 inch or greater rims.
