Hey all,

I have gorilla extended lug nuts for aluminum rims. Does anyone know if the washers that seat these lug nuts are suppose to be so tight to seat? They seem almost impossible to get flush to the rim because they keep bowing out of the recessed hole for the washer. Is there a trick to this I'm missing? They seem almost 1 millimeter total wider than the hole itself...though I was told they are the right size.

Was thinking of seating them by setting the washers in dry ice for 10 minutes, while hitting the rim holes with a torch.

Any ideas?

Do your wheels have a tapered seat? Then they need a tapered face lug nut - no washer.

Or are they really supposed to use shank-style lug nuts??

What wheels do you have????

 

I apologize for the lack of clarity. I'm using Gorilla lug nuts #75187 Chrome Duplex Mag Lug Nuts 1/2in x 20 RH with washers on 16.5x9.75 slotted mag rim.

When removing the old washers, it was a NIGHTMARE to remove them...very tight, I didn't realize that putting new washers in was worse than removing them.

 

The washers are supposed to fit snugly within the lug holes counterbore, it shouldn't take more than a few taps with a hammer to seat the more stubborn washers.

 

The washers do not center the wheels. The shaft does. If they're that tight, file a couple millimeters off the edges. DO NOT use a torch on the wheels unless you really want to make scrap aluminum out of a nice set of wheels. Yes, they fit SNUG. ...Not TIGHT. They should slide into the hole without much effort. Use some sand paper in the lug nut bores in the wheels. Maybe some corrosion build up is your problem?
