Yea yea I know. This is by far my dumbest post yet. I'm tryin to fix all the jerry rigging that the previous owner did to my pickup. Next on the list was to replace all the lug nuts, because it had those cheapo ones, so I set out to the nearest Auto Zone.
Mind you I have aftermarket 15x8 rims and supposedly you shouldn't run stock lug nuts on aftermarket rims. I was told I need a special lug nut that had a 3/4" shank and washer. They fixed me up with 20 of em, 1/2" by 20. I came home and started what I thought would be a simple project.
First problem I noticed was that the lug nuts were bottoming out too quick and were not tightening down on the washers. So I removed one of them and had a look, and it looked like I had taken it to a bench grinder and grinded the bottom 1/2". So my question is, what lug nuts SHOULD I be using for this application? Thanks for any help guys!!!
Just regular acorn nuts...you don't want to use the ones with washers unless your running rims like craggers that have an elongated oval slot instead of a round hole. Go to any tire place and buy 20 -1/2-20 mc gard lug nuts. They are by far the best.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Apr-02 AT 11:06 PM (EST)]McGard makes a great lug, but you could also look into Gorilla, and 100+(Coyote Enterprises). They are all very strong, and offer many applications.
