Turbo kit for a '92 IDI

Looking at the different kits, who recommends what? There are Hypermax, Banks and if I can find one ATS. I don't think they make ATS anymore but I may be able to find a used one. Anyone have a turbo for sale??

My vote ATS 093, no they do not make them anymore. Banks has new old stock, not sure if hypermax is still producing or selling off what they have left.

I just bought and installed the banks kit. I would have probably gone with the hypermax but cost was so much better with the banks. It comes with full exhaust and its wastegated. With the hypermax they nickle and dime you to death. www.gohypermax.com and www.bankspower.com. Like I said, after researching, the cost for the banks kit was just so much better. It is a complete kit.

My vote is ATS....But I am biased...

Hypermax is the worst of the 3, and rediculous...

Banks is a good kit for a stock IDI...

All I have to say is this... There was a reason (or two) ford used the ATS kit as the factory kit...

I vote for the wastgated banks, later on you can unhook the wastgate for more boost. If you do that you might risk head gasket problems, But I got away with it, but my engain had a lot of blow by. I wouldn't try it on a fresh rebuild.

I love my ATS setup. It's factory and really couldn't tell you about other setups. I'm pretty sure typefour has parts for the ATS setups. You can still buy parts for the banks. If you could find a used setup, maybe you could get enough to make a full kit. 91dirtydiesel had an ATS kit for sale.

I just bought a wastegated ats used kit off ebay. My truck has never had a turbo and I don't know anything else than what a great running idi on my 94 will do so I am real eager to feel the difference buy.......I hear some doubt about the wastegate causing problems. Can anyone shed light on this...

I have two 7.3's. One has a relatively new Banks kit on it, and one has a recently rebuilt 093 on it, and both are tuned and timed to the best of my ability, I can say without a doubt that at least in my case, the Banks spools faster, and seems to provide a little more performance than the stock ATS. I do plan to do some mods to the factory turbo ATS kit on my 94 to get a little more oomph out of her, but the Banks seems to be the better bolt on kit right now.

Banks vs. stock turbo the banks will win... banks has a 3" outlet and down pipe. Factory has a 2.25 outlet and crushed 2.25 DP. Upgrade the factory turbo to 3" and i bet the results will be the same or better. From the incomplete resources in the turbocharger thread it seems the ATS has the better comp map. Also the garret cartridge has upgrades available.

I'm a new member. I have a 1993 f350 IDI crew cab 4x4, ZF5. i am about to attempt to install a used banks turbo kit on. I have all the parts to the kit (I bought another F250 that had the banks kit on it - pulled it off last week) and plan on installing in a couple weeks. Any advice? Is it as easy as pulling it off of another truck? I am a new mechanic but learning quickly.

Ya if anything it should be easier because youre not trying to get stuck parts apart. You will have to bend the seam on the firewall to fit the 3" DP but thats pretty easy with a pry bar or piece of pipe.

You might need to cut the ear off the bell housing.
