how much do you guys generally use? i have a 1979 f250 custom, so how much would i need to coat the frame? also could i use their spray chassis coat/ flex seal instead?

another option of por 15

HARDNOSETMpaints are tough, glossy, two-component coatings for use over primed or painted surfaces.
They are moisture cured, so exposure to moisture and humidity will actually improve their performance and strength.

When fully cured, HARDNOSETM Paints are rock-hard, chemical resistant, non-porous, and incredibly tough. Durable and easily cleaned, they will not crack, chip, peel, or fade with age. HARDNOSETM Paints will withstand even the most intensive UV environments.
These beautiful, two-component coatings are stronger than any color paints you have ever tried. The long-lasting brilliant colors will look terrific wherever you use them, and will withstand incredible abuse. You'll be amazed and delighted at how well HARDNOSETM paints hold up under conditions that would quickly destroy ordinary finishes.
HARDNOSETM paints are also excellent for industrial applications. Use our safety yellow or orange colors on machinery guards or heavy equipment, and then stand back and marvel at how long they last under abuse.
Put HARDNOSETM Paints on the chassis of your car, truck, or motorcycle, and quit worrying about stone chips and gravel roads. You'll be amazed at the toughness!

thanks ill look into that but that still doesnt answer my question. should i use a pint, quart, gallon? whats the best amount to get without paying for a bunch extra/ or not having enough

Also im trying to keep things cheap. the typical college student income isnt nearly enough to do the things i have planned for my truck, hence the low budget

I recently used 1qt on a 77 F250 frame. I like to brush it on then brush a top coat of normal paint. I was able to the frame, leafs and both axles. Por15 coats well. If you don't do it all at one time be careful how tight you put the lid on or you may never ever get it back off. That stuff literally dries like steel.

I didn't use any kind of metal prep other than the wire wheel. That stuff doesn't like clean shiny metal and the frame I had to work with was anything but. I've really been satisfied with it on other projects.

If you are going to use POR-15, follow the directions!! Use the cleaner and metal prep first!

The people that have bad experiences with POR-15 are usually the ones that don't do the correct prep work first.

Think of POR-15 as a really strong primer. And either the Chassiscoat or Hardnose as the paint.

For my truck I'm going with the POR-15 and top coating it with the Hardnose black.

Yes it's not cheap. But you won't have to worry about having to redo it in a couple years either.

$1500????? Damn, I really hope that's not just POR-15 products!! If it is you must be building a school bus. If that's also parts then don't feel bad. Add a another zero to that and that's almost all the parts on my trucks parts list that I still need!! And that doesn't include the engine parts.

That's one of the reasons my build has at least another 5 years to go.
