I can take my engine till it hits the rev-limiter and then have to take my foot off the accelerator for it to shift. If I'm easy on the gass peddle it shifts through every gear fine. If I give it hell it will hit the rev-limiter at 35 then I let off and it shifts to 3rd. Them if I'm going around thirty its hard to get it to downshift back to 2nd ftom third with out it jumping down to 1st. The tps looksto be adjustable and the PO said the original owner messed with it. So my questions are, is this even haveanything to do sith the tps at all? Can I adjust it to fix it or does it need replaced? Also its a rebuilt jasper with rought 50k on it, thanks in advance for the help, this is my first automatic so I've never messed with them at all.
no TPS on a C-6.
the C-6 is vacuum controlled, and uses a vacuum regulator valve to control the vacuum signal to the trans modulator.
you need a minimum of 17 inches vacuum for the C-6 to shift properly. it sounds to me like you either have a weak vacuum pump, or improperly adjusted VRV.
Thanks for the help bud its really freakin annoying since reving the engine that high is harder on it than I like to be and worthless for gaining speed to get on a highway see what happens when I get a chance to tinker with it. Thanks again!
well, i only have 150,000 miles on the C-6, but the guy that built it for me guaranteed me i could not blow it up.
i have been trying, but so far he was rite.
i drove mine for a couple years with a defective VRV (what you called a TPS), and became quite proficient at manually shifting it. when the shifter is in 2nd, the tranny will only be able to go into 2nd gear, so we would take off in drive, pull the shifter to 2nd when i wanted it to shift, then return the shifter to drive when i wanted it to shift into 3rd. the only problem was i couldn't keep it in 3rd below 42mph, so i hated roads with a 35 speed limit.
i finally got a different VRV on there last week, and its amazing how it shifts by itself
My van had a problem of shifting way to early when I got it. It would shift literally 1-2-3 almost in 1 shot. Then bog down, and downshift to 2nd, and hold it long enough to shift back to 3rd.
3 adjustments and test runs of the VRV got it right where I want it to be. Was just way out of adjustment.
If I remember correctly, theres 2 or 3 screws holding it there, loosen 'em, and pull VRV forward for higher RPM shifts, push it down (towards rear) for lower RPM shifts.
