hi guys my 74 f100 has a wire someone spliced ,and im trying to figure this out .wiring is not one of my strong points . anyway theirs a small guage solid green wire that comes out of the igntion switch its about a foot long and its spliced on a nother wire that is quite heavy then spliced again into heavy yellow and black striped that is located in the harness behind the guages . every diagram i found on the web is unreadable and it tests hot all the time key off or on i want to fix this right , my question what is the green wire is it supposed hooked to the yellow ,black stripped wire thanks guys
Since it's a custom job, there's no way anyone can guess what it was for, or what it does. There's no solid GREEN wire that comes out of the back of the switch. There is a heavy-gauge YELLOW wire that goes IN to the switch; this is hot-at-all-times power that gets distributed to the different switch outputs based on the position of the key.
i also have a 79 f100 thats been stripped so i can see the wiring good and i dont see any green wire coming out of it on my 74 it looks so out of place im temped to un hook the green wire from the from the splice and see if it affects anything if it dont affect any thing then remove it ,it almost looks like somebody attemped to install a differnt radio ,or stereo because the plugin for the radio is gone, what coler wires are on the radio plugin , thanks much
