Radar Detector Wiring Help

I just bought a Escort Passport 8500 X50 radar detector off Ebay with a direct wire kit. I hooked up the direct wire to the stereo power lead because I have installed an aftermarket radio was was easy to splice into. I thought the stereo lead would turn on and off with the ignition but it doesn't. So does any one know where a good place to splice into a wire that turns on and off with the ignition that is easy to access under the dash near the stereo or near the pedels.

You probably spliced into the yellow wire for the radio. Splice into the red wire, which is switched power. Yellow is constant (for memory, etc.).
