Sorry for asking a dumb question but a friend connected my Jensen casette player on my '71 F100 and every time I turn the truck on the radio looses it's memory settings.
Please help?
Do you have a wiring diagram? Usually there is a ground wire (almost always black) and a wire that's supposed to be hooked so it's hot when the ignition switch is on (usually a red wire) and then there is a wire that should be connected to a constant source of 12 V. It might be yellow, white or blue or something else. There might also be a wire that goes to an power antenna. If you have the diagram it's pretty easy, if not you might have to do a little trial and error to see which wire powers the memory.
For about $12.00 you can get a wiring harness that matches your model radio and your model truck and then you can just wire it up to the radio and plug it in where the stock radio connects.
Or, just drive it over here to Live Oak and I'll hook it up for you.

Now that i think about it, for the radio to turn on both memory and power wire need to be hooked up for the radio to turn on. Sounds as if the 2 are wired backwards.
You might start by checking to see if the radio will come come on when the ignition switch is turned off. If it does, prplayboy might be right. I don't think the "memory" wire has to be hooked up at all for the radio to play, but if you have no 12v to the memory when you turn the key off then when you turn it back on the radio won't be on the same station it was on when you turned the radio off and all of the preset stations along with probably the clock will be lost.
Well, that's whats happenenig. I set the stations/turn the truck off/when I turn it on again, the stations are all lost and I have to start over again.
The radio does NOT turn on when the ignition is off, only when the ignition is on.
So did you find a diagram on the radio case? How many wires are coming out of the radio, what colors are they are where are they hooked up. He might have hooked the power and memory wires together, then hooked up to the ignition switch. Are two wires hooked together by any chance?
