Chip Removal (Procedure)

Greetings all,
I am checking in to confirm the procedure for removing a chip from my V10 equipped 2005 Excursion.
I have currently installed a Banks Powerpack, with the Ottomind chip and Trans Command. I am intending to remove them for the SCT tuner and tunes I ordered today from Mike at 5 Star. I am leaving the headers and exhaust on the vehicle, just removing the Banks electronic devices. I just want to make sure I'm doing the right steps for removal and the need for the PCM and TCM to re-learn after being powered down.

1. Park Vehicle, set brake, chock if needed.
2. Disconnect battery grounds.
3. Remove chip from PCM, replace factory cover with PCM code on it.
4. Disconnect Trans Command Module, remove from vehicle.
5. Reconnect battery grounds.
6. Start vehicle.
7. Un-chock, release brake, drive it for a 100 or so miles to re-learn strategy without the Ottomind Chip and trans Command Device.

8. Install tunes from 5 Star, drive it like I stole it.

Am I on the right pathway?

-Mark

Sounds perfect. Are you going to be able to get the chip out without removing the PCM from the vehicle?

One thing though, I wouldn't bother to let it relearn the strategy. There's no point, because when the tune is uploaded, the KAM (keep alive memory) is cleared, and whatever it learned is gone anyway.

HOWEVER - I would drive it for a bit just to make sure everything is OK. You don't want to be putting the tune on right away and thinking something is wrong with the tune when it was something else to begin with.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other... same results

Krewat, thanks for the response. The PCM is very accessible next to the park brake pedal. I can get the chip out pretty easily.
I'm more concerned about the Trans Command module. I just need to be sure I get the wires back into the proper location on the factory trans control wiring plug. In reading the installation instructions, there are three wires removed from the Factory Trans Control wiring plug that get installed into a plug that will match the plug on the Trans Command Module.

Good info regarding the keep alive memory. Do you think that will apply to the tranmissions strategy as well?

Absolutely, at least I'm 99.9% sure of it

The PCM controls both the engine and transmission - if the KAM is cleared, that should clear everything.

I put a "jet" chip I think it was in my 2001 super duty v-10 pretty much right after I bought the truck. Had to use rubbing alcohol for what seemed like an hour to get the film off the chip before install. My question is, do chips go bad? Trying to pinpoint the reason my truck is running so terrible. Stalls, misfires, rough idle, etc.
