The rebuild fee is $50 plus the shipping costs.

By doing this I’m keeping the factory look with out modifying/cutting up the dash etc....with some current/modern features added.
If you have an aux jack, you can buy a bluetooth module for a few bucks on amazon or ebay to wirelessly link your phone, tablet, or dedicated music device.

Hands free calling and everything? I don't see a microphone on that little box, but if it's got one that's a nifty little device!!!

Hands free calling while in an old 1979 F250, from an aux jack that was added to the factory radio for $50.... man... the things we can do these days lol

Highjack over. Lol.

New dash bezels installed! Pictures don't show the chrome very well but its there

I believe it is just saying you can listen to your call via the radio. When I make or receive calls my phone gives me the option of iPhone/speakerphone/aukey. I still hold the phone near my mouth for the mic but can use the truck radio to hear the other Person.... BUT maybe they updated this one or added a mic idk.

Fear not Candy Cane fans. I'm going to start that project next weekend. I have been working every weekend now for over a month and been traveling. All the goodies have arrived and its just sitting on the CC tool box, tormenting me to get this project started.

Finally I got the chance to install the new sound system. So far I have been happy with the results. The fit was perfect and it interfaced with my existing amps and it sounds great. I had to replace the HVAC/Radio bracket with one I found on eBay that wasn't modified like mine was (Pictured). I also replaced the dash bezel with a new DC bezel. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a smart interface via USB to my iPhone so it doesn't show song names and any other meta data but it will play tunes from my phone and take phone calls via Bluetooth. I use the USB to charge my phone.

Next project, Going forward with the electric fan installation. I have ordered and received the Lincon fan with connector harness and for the controller I'm going with the Dakota Digital programmable fan controller. Should be lots of fun. Pictures will follow!

Starting the electric fan installation project. Last weekend I installed the Dakota fan controller and got some of the wiring done. The controller cannot be installed in the engine compartment so I installed it behind the glove box using Velcro to secure it to the top of the HVAC ducts and left a service loop with the harness. This will enable me to reach up and take the controller out and service/program it when needed. This weekend I will install the relays and fan unit with my custom brackets I dug up. I tested the fan on my kids.

Excellent work Steve, as always. Love the picture of you and the kids!

What made you choose to go with a Dakota Digital fan controller? I really like their info on youtube about that controller but never knew it existed until you posted! If I had to guess, you're trying to use the existing temp sending unit in the top/front of the block, but control both low/high speed fans from it?

Thanks Aaron! I did a search of some of the best fan controllers and Dakota came up several times and since I have always liked the digital instrument panel so they where the top contender. I'm using the factory sending unit but from what I read I have to program the controller to work with the sender. I'll be working on that part this weekend so I'll have more info. Stay tuned!

I had some time this afternoon after work so I worked on doing some test fits. What I discovered was my big 4" radiator is really big! (I already knew that) so the fan does not cover the entire radiator surface. I don't want to cover the part of the radiator that is not covered by the fan as that will restrict airflow when I'm moving. I have gone to enough car shows and have seen other fan conversions that don't cover the entire radiator. The good part about this modification is the fact that the controller is programmable so I can tweak as necessary. Also this fan can really move some air so I'm very optimistic that this will work out fine and keep my engine cool and keep air flowing through the condenser so I can keep my beer cold at an idle.

2 40 amp Bosch relays and a 30 amp breaker mounted on a custom bracket I fabed up for looks. Currently sitting where I may mount it. The small gauge wires you see in the photo is from the controller. I still need to wire up the high current circuit.

I will do more work on it this weekend and finish the brackets and get it spinning.

+1 for the Dakota Digital Fan Controller. I installed one of those in my 72 Commando last year mated it up to a set of dual Ford Contour fans. I really like being able to program in the start and stop temps. I used the DD temp sender in my 4.0 to make sure it would play nice. I think you will be happy with it as well. I am thinking about putting the new DD VHX gauges in my 74 SCAB Dent. Pricey but oh so sexy.

I finished up the fan installation this weekend and its working very well. First thing I noticed was my engine compartment has a very different sound to it, No more mechanical fan noise and when I drive it I can feel that there is no drag on the engine. My temps have been between 170-180 F doing city driving and long idles and my AC blows ice cold air at idle. Also I can feel a lot of air moving across the condenser and radiator at idle with the fan on low. It also sounds pretty cool when I shut the engine off and the fan remains on for another minute.

The installation went as planned. There is a lot of wiring and attention to the details. I mounted the relays and circuit breaker on the radiator support just below the factory horn to help keep the engine compartment neat and tidy. The controller is installed behind the glove box with enough slack so I can pull it down to program the unit. Set up is pretty straight forward, I'm still tweaking with the sending unit type selection so it will read the correct temperature. Right now its off by 50 degrees but will correct itself then jump back to some wacky number. Taking my Ohm meter I'm getting a toggling voltage from the instrument panel. I'll have to do some additional troubleshooting on that issue. I'm using a digital radiator thermometer to run my tests.

Excellent work Steve! Very clean install and wow your engine bay is clean. I could eat off those valve covers!

Might I suggest taking another look at the wiring? The fan should turn off once the engine is killed otherwise you're still drawing very high amperage on your battery with the fan continuing to run. I believe others have had this happen to them before and there's a fairly simple fix for it.

Not trying to throw stones at your work, just looking out for ya
