Just ordered a new stereo from Classic Car Audio and another dash bezel from Dennis Carpenter. I like my modern radio but the fit has always bothered me as its very difficult to get the unit to sit flush with the dash due to the heating ducts. The new unit is a modern version of the original and has USB and Bluetooth connections and will interface with my existing amps and subs. I'll still rock out with my favorite tunes! Pix will follow when I get that project started.
Finished up the HVAC rebuild project and now I will have to get it charged to see if it blows out ice cubes. The heater works great and the new fan is nice and quiet. I used Back to Black to bring the plastic plenum back to its original luster. I still have a few little things to do like make a better top bracket that supports the idler gear bracket to the top of the compressor and find out why 2 of the 4 bolts that bolt the bottom compressor bracket to the heads don't thread easily.
I had some clearance issues with the fan so I moved the compressor back slightly until I install a spacer for the fan -Or- maybe go electric fans. I'll have to ponder that one.
Looks good, very nice setup for a very nice truck. I have to order my A/C components, I have the dealer installed a/c but no compressor under the hood. This is a good thread to follow for options. I will make sure to do a thread when I do mine.
I,m liking those plug wire guides. Where did you source those?
Funny you should spot the wire guides, They where a spontaneous purchase when I went to the local Pep Boys to get some minor stuff when I was replacing the engine back in 2012. I just spotted the box and thought I would give it a try.

Good lord that's close. Too close for my pucker factor. I would definitely look for a Mark VIII fan to swap in. It's very easy to do and a lot more bang for your buck compared to other aftermarket e-fans, plus it will give you at least two more inches away from your compressor.

Yes defiantly going to be looking into the swap. One thing is going to be how its going to look, its gotta look really nice so I'll be looking at other threads and getting some ideas. Also I don't want to have a switch to go into high speed. I want the system to be totally automated and transparent.
The close proximity of the fan was very high on my pucker factor as well. I was able to pluck the seat buttons off. After I shot that photo I did move it back a little more but it miss aligned the belt slightly. More to come on this subject....
Not yet, Its still on the FedEx truck. Just got a call from Dennis Carpenter telling me that my new dash bezel won't be ready until early April sometime. That's cutting it kinda close as I'm planning on a 3 day trip to Redding for the Kool April Nights car show.
If it helps, here is a pic of mine. After I took the pic, I made it look much prettier. The center of the fan motor is two and a half inches from the water pump pulley. As for the electrical, I got a wiring harness with two relays from ebay for $40. Came with everything I needed to make it work in both high and low speed.

Thank You! It does help a lot. I will be doing some research on this project when I finish the Stereo replacement project.
Steve, Back to the radio......I don’t know if you have a factory am/fm stereo for your truck but if you do...did you consider a rebuild on your radio? I’m having my ‘77 am/fm stereo being refurbished by Gene Cochran and when he does the rebuild he adds an auxiliary jack (mine will come out the back with a 15”-18” cable) so you can plug like a I phone in so you can listen to whatever you want. The rebuild fee is $50 plus the shipping costs.
By doing this I’m keeping the factory look with out modifying/cutting up the dash etc....with some current/modern features added.
