Well, after sending in a sample of my oil every oil change for the past 5 times and getting great results, I decided to not send in a sample on my next to last change. But this last time being that I have 250k miles on the ole girl i was wanting to send in a sample. I was wanting to send in my sample at 12,000 miles but never had the opportunity and it slipped to 14,500 before i was able to find the time. Well, first off, while my pressure gauge was signaling good, the oil did not register on the dip stick. Now a quart or two low is the norm on my changes but not on the stick, wow. Then i crawled underneath and discovered that my oil filter had loosened up and had oil dripping down the sides. It was very loose when i went to take it off. Good thing it didnt loosen enough to pump all my oil out. Whew! Put I was still being somewhat absent minded and forgot to take the sample until the very end of the drain, i mean i almost didnt get enough to fill the bottle. I figured that would possibly introduce some extra impurities at the end of the drain cycle. With all that said, check out my attached oil analysis. Not that i plan to make this the norm, but its good to know.
A 16,000 mile change? Wow, looks like an analasys will pay for itself 100 times over lol. Congrats on a good report. I'm going to send one in on the change after the next one.
Note in my signature that i have a bypass oil filter installed. Its paid for itself several times over by now. Straight RotellaT 15w-40. Mainly highway miles with some weekend towing about once a month or so.
