Tell me does the passenger side mirror angle in more than the driver's side?
I installed these on my 95 (didn't go as planned) and I'm wondering if either they are slightly different or my driver's side isn't quite installed properly, although it looks like it is.
I had a limited amount of daylight to install these and my driver's side bottom portion is off towards the front just slightly (maybe 1/8") but looks like it's pushed in all the way. When I fix that I can't see it compensating for the difference in angle.
The linked mirrors were intended as direct swaps for the later style front doors, beginning in 2002 according to my '09 collision estimating guide anyway.
I've also done the door shell modification and like you say its a bit of a bear. After chopping out a decent amount of sheet metal and cobbling a way to secure a similar mounting mirror I succeeded in them seating properly against their mounting areas just forward of the window.
Typically these mirror's mounting based and the doors too will be reversed images of one another, nothing different other than left side/right side.
Time and daylight permitting you might want to better refine how the mirror bases fit against the door shells---that might be the solution to all this.
The biggest issue was the lower stud isn't long enough to pass through the inner skin. I can fix that. I grinded off the next lowest stud because it required drilling awkwardly into a brace between the skins. No big deal the 95 only has 3 studs not 4.
I used the sealing material as a template and I think I'm off enough to make the mirror not seat properly. One way or another I'll get it to work. The passenger side mirror is fine.
The weather here is crazy 70 degrees one day 20 the next. I had a Ram truck with trailer mirrors sticking out about 2 feet hit my driver's side mirror head on (I don't recall telling him he could use my lane!) it completely shattered the mirror not just the glass. I ordered one online, paid extra for shipping next day since it's a pain to drive with one mirror and no rear windows. That mirror arrived broken, and I bought the last one. They can send me another in a month! Thanks. I used the broken mirror while I waited for these.

Didn't mean to double post, website is slow as molasses and keeps giving me database errors.
I'm sure we're all getting the "database error" message lately. I just hit the back key and try posting again from what essentially is the same page---worked every time so far.
Having just one mirror on either side is a PITA, especially after getting used to them both being there. Were it not for the swing away feature I've have to keep these darned things in stock for fast replacement, always someone trying to take them off. (Sometimes that's my doing too!)
Sounds like you've got a handle on all this----hope you like the newer style. I wish they had the larger pedestal versions(<' 01) to fit the '02's and above, powered and heated of course. The dual element types leave too large a blind spot no matter how you try adjusting the lover convex portion.
In fact I might buy one like yours to see how much better the rear view is--OEM's could probably be had from eBay for a decent price.
Let us know how this works out---photos would be cool too!
I think the view is better than my old ones but I will add the small round blind spot mirrors, I've always had them. The driver's side is just awkward due to it not being angled enough, I actually notice it with my peripheral vision. Will probably work on it Saturday weather permitting see if I can't figure out what's up with it..
Supposed to be flurries today and the ground is almost covered WTF.
Temps dipped here over night, got snow cover yesterday, 9* now and heading all the way to 17*. Add in my beater car died so today will be checking battery, alternator and of course making sure its not out of gas--fun day ahead!
I'll be adding heated mirrors to my '03 and very well might use the same size and configuration as your link shows---allows for a larger spot mirror than I have now.
Well I've come to the conclusion that the passenger mirror has more of an inward angle than the driver's side. I haven't seen one in person but every head on front pic I've seen you can see the difference. It's odd that they did that. You can see it in this pic: http://trexbillet.com/cart/index.php...oducts_id=1137
Mine are manual they are the same as the available power/heated. I was in a 2004 yesterday with the 2 peice mirrors and they were also angled different. To me it's mostly noticeable from the driver's seat. While the arm of the driver's mirror is almost at 90 degrees to the van the passenger side arm is closer to 60 degrees.
I recently bought the one with the convex mirror on the bottom, driver's side. I haven't tried to fit it yet (traveling too much) but I worried about the convex bit being too small. I got used to the little round one on my old mirror, but they are always falling off.
Maybe I should have gone with the full one piece mirror though, and epoxied the round style mirror on. Hmm..

I've never had the round ones fall off, I have some rectangle ones now that aren't that great. The complaint about the 2 piece mirror was that the convex mirror doesn't stay in position, a friend of mine used silicone to keep his in place.
I'm intrigued by the single piece RV mirrors as I hate the dual element versions, as said that little spot mirror is worthless!
Come summer time I'll order one of the cheap knock offs from eBay, fit it with a NAPA 7048 D, stick-on convex mirror. I remove the applied adhesive strips and use either windshield urethane adhesive or good ole RTV. Two slightly fat lines somewhat similar in size to the removed adhesive strips and they never fall off.
