i have a 94 desile with over 480 km and have had this problem where every time i change my burnt gps to the pointwhere i have changed all at once and i started the motor twice and i have now two plugs burnt I suspect the controler is staying on too long I i would like to find out what is the cause and how can i fix this expensive problem or at least where i can start looking
i have used champion and autolite the time seems to be around 15 to 20 secs maybe a bit longer when i turn them on the controler seems towork fine but i dont know if it is working right or not
i am not really sure for the wait time as for each time i start it costs me one or two glow plugs

Reason: add mor info
Champion and autolites are junk plugs. Use nothing but motorcraft zd-9 plugs. 15 secs is alittle long,it's usually 8-10 but I don't think that's why your burning plugs. It's most likely the brand.
Put some good glow plugs in there then bypass that controller with a manual push switch. Then there's no question if they're coming on and for how long.
ok but is there a way i can check the controler to b sure its working properly and not overheating the plugs for too long is there a sensor that tells the controler the engin is cold and is causing the timer to stay on too long
Controller works on resistance. It senses the resistance in the plugs to control how long they glow. I think if you read the link posted by Chevy_eater it will tell you how to check it.
i belive that 20 seconds is to long...the newer controler see's the ohms of resistance in the gp's to control after glow during warm up..the wait to start lite will blink two or three time's when cold out..check all conections even if they look good, don't forget the grounds..controller may be bad...
glow plug heat time is controlled by resistance and temperature.
if it is 50 degrees out, the glow plugs on my 88 will only wait to start around 10 seconds. if it is 10 below, they wait to start 20-25 seconds.
i have seen autolite and champion glow plugs burn out after one 10 second cycle. you can get the proper motorcraft ZD-9 glow plugs from rock auto for $9.69 each.
click on this link and it will take you to the order page: MOTORCRAFT Part # ZD9
thanks for all the help i have changed the glow plugs and in mysearch i also have found that the connections were dirty and that has seemed to solv the problem and is working like it should
