Sacramento Smog

4inchlovin & Stewart-H
Part of the rub that I have with the AFE manifold is that they state on their web site that it is not CARB approved for street use. However in the documents 4inchlovin has provided it would appear that the AFE manifold would be legal if they did not have that statement for their product. As far as I can tell it is a "direct replacement" except that it is two pieces instead of one casting. Has all of the required ports for the AIH ETC. and has no affect on any smog equipment.
My main issue is with my local smog guy that is old school and "any changes fail to be smog legal" I really hope that I can find someone that accepts that document the way you do. I REALLY do not want to do the manifold again. I am sure my neighbors would agree!!

With the addition of diesel vehicles being smogged, and different rules coming in to play because of the diesels, unless the smog tech has been taught properly, it would be very easy for an "old school" smog tech to be lazy and fall back on the "no part is legal without a CARB cert" attitude.
Just find a different place to get your truck smogged.

I don't think the spider your talking about is legal. Only on the intake side of the turbo is legal. I was going to use that spider when I updated but just went with the late 7.3L style from a friend. With that said, alot of guys get those 38R's approved with the certificate posted here. Only a 7.3L guy would know the difference.

FI460. I am in Hat Creek about 70 miles NE of Redding, however I get to Redding often these days as my sweetie lives down there. If you know of someone in the area or even more your way it's worth it to me to me to not have to R&R the spider.
AFE has been in the process of getting the Bladerunner manifold CARB certified but it has already been about 2 years and I am due for smog in June.
Thanks for the help.

Ah. I'm no help here. I'm on the other side of Redding.
I'm out of Yreka and haven't had to smog a diesel, but I have a few buddies who I didnt expect to pass smog that made it through with no modifications. Yreka is quite a jog away though.

The AFE web site states "for off road only" on the Bladerunner intake but according to the CAB description it fits the "direct replacement" criteria except for being in two pieces. I did call AFE yesterday but only talked to a sales guy - no TECH available. He told me that CARB is reviewing the Bladerunner this month so hopefully this will all be a moot point.

Mike I called them two years ago also because Clay was selling them and I wanted to update my early 99. They are right here in corona ca near my house. They told me they applied but haven't seen certification. Thats why I went with a friends late model set up. If I wouldn't have I'd already have my 38R and sticks.
