I just got a 2001 Expedition EB 5.4, 4X4.
When I went to look at the truck it had a very obvious whistle, it seemed to be coming from the rear of the throttle body. But that is hard to tell. I jiggled some of the hoses and it seemed to go away but then it would come back. I figured it was a simple vac leak. No check engine light. Then the whistle went away for about 80 miles while I was just standing there with the hood open but not touching anything the whistle came back. It is very hard to tell where it is coming from
I did pull some vac line off to check for leaks while the engine was running. Would that cause the check engine light to come on. I did put the hoses all back on. The next day the Check Engine light came on, code P0171.
I have read there is a common problem is the rubber boot behind the Throttle Body. But mine runs good, idles good, getting 13 mpg around town. And the only code is P0171, wouldn’t that boot from the PCV cause both banks to go lean?
well that came back the codes are P0171 and now P0174 too.
I checked the hose at the rear of the throttle body and PCV both are good as is the plastic hose.
I checked the hose at the rear of the throttle body
The hose or the elbow? It's the rubber elbow that is the problem. Also, feeling it does not always tell the tale, you have to remove it and do a visual inspection of the elbow.

Thanks for the reply!!
I did remove it, It looked brand new, had no defects on either of the boots (there are only 2) also the plastic hose/pipe is fine too. I applied suction and pressure to all the parts and no leaks.
I did have this whistle that comes and goes, and I am starting to think it is/was the VMS I think its called, vapor Management valve or selnoid.
When was the fuel filter last changed ? Low pressure in the fuel rails will also give you those codes.

I am looking at the receipts that came with the truck. In may 2012 it had:
Inner and outer tie rods both sides, and an alignment.
Diff fluid changed 75W140SYN with “Limited slip additive”
Shifter bushing
1 Fuel Filter
8 Auto lite Dbl Platmum plugs
1 Air Filter
1 PCV Valve
7 Coil on Plug Boot
1 Ign Coil
In Dec 2012 it got
New tires
MAF sensor
And the trans was rebuilt by a reputable local shop 30K ago.
