I noticed about 3 weeks ago that my check engine light was on. I took it to Pep Boys and they said there was no code and so they cleared it. A week later The check engine light came back on and I went to Autozone. They plugged in thier scanner and got a code PO171. What does this indicate, what causes it and how can it be fixed? The truck does not run any different than it has in the past. In fact I havent noticed it running different at anytime, whether the check engine light is on or not.
It is showing a lean condition on bank 1 (passengerside). This is usually caused by either a dirty MAF or a bad PCV hose elbow at the rear of the intake manifold.
I cleared my 0171 with a couple of cans of STP gas treatment and very little gas in the tank. It initially showed 2 codes of both banks lean, then I cleared the codes, put the STP in, and later I got just 0171 come back on. Cleared that one and it hasn't come back on in a year (40,000 miles).
I have a 2001 expedition 5.4L 4X4. My check engine light came on with the code P1132 and has started running funny. When I start the truck and drive it will hesitate and spit and sputter and all of a sudden it stops and surges forward. I was told it was a bad fuel cap and I replaced it and still have the problem. A couple of months ago I would hear a humming sound at the rear of the truck after I turned it off. I decided to open the fuel cap and when I did the humming stopped. It was running fine back then. Then the humming stopped and truck now runs bad. Anyone have an idea?
