Headers for v10?
Wanting to purchase my first v10 and would like to put headers and good sounding mufflers on to boost mileage and overall performance. Is this a good idea? Or are stock manifolds good enough? Dont want to disturb any computer settings with after market products. Would also like to change gears to 3:55 or 3:73 any idea how much $ for this?

Good headers with no other exhaust changes around $400

WHAT??? 4.30's are what you want with a V-10. Most came with 3.73's. 4.30's will actually improve the mileage and make it tow like a champ. I'd take a set of 4.30's for my v-10 any day!!!

A 4.30 rear end might make it tow like a champ but definitely will not getter mileage than an Excursion with a 3.73 rear end.

For a V-10 Yes it will!!! Ask anyone on the v-10 forum. This is a well known fact. Maybe not for a diesel but for a v-10 4.30's are a hot Item. Because the motor doesnt have to work as hard to move that 6800 truck. This has been discussed religiously on the v-10 forum.

You must have misunderstood my statement, if I had a v10 I would only want 430s. If he has 430s and wants to swap to 355s or 373s he'd be the first. Wouldn't want to lose that much power to the ground

I had Banks headers installed about 4 weeks ago and have a good increase in mid range power and fuel mileage has improved as well. I have had one V10 truck with 3.73's and when compared to my 4.30 geared versions there is no comparison. I never got better fuel mileage then the 4.30 geared trucks and nowhere near the pulling power when towing. I do find that the manual transmission V10's get about 1-1.5 mpg better then my auto equipted V10's did. Just sold my 2000 Excursion and it never saw 14 mpg, mid 13's the best it ever got. My 6 speed manual get high 14's with very little trouble.

I've had a set of 3;55's in an f250 with a 351. Didnt seem to do too bad. If I remember correctly I think my mileage was around 12. Hard to believe a set of 430's would get better mileage on the hi-way. By the time I have Mike at 5star send me a program, I get some decent mufflers, and maybe a K&N I thought 373's or 355's would be fine. I've driven a v10 and they have some good low end. Most of my driving would be highway with occasional horse trailer. I would guess around 15k lbs truck and trailer.
