I'm sure the pump is fine as long as you didn't torque the tc to the flex plate or try to start it. As for starting it I'm not sure I've never tried it with out a tranny couldn't hurt anything maybe the flex plate but I doubt it

if the torque converter was not completely into the pump and you tighten the trans to the block, it will force the /converter into the pump. this usually ruins the pump and converter, and the easiest way to confirm it is to try to remove the converter. if it does not move and feels like it is jammed into the trans, you are screwed.
I'm sure its fine we have 3 powerstroke conversion vans at my school that they pull trannys out of and put back in for light duty and it happens all the time and they're fine as long as they don't try to start them with it jammed up like that I mean don't get me wrong I'm sure it can happen but it's not likely. I have seen them started like that and it can get pretty gruesome
