A new toy

After a year of hell, 900 mile move, tons of work on a new house, I decided to take part of the tax return for a new toy. It's something I've been half-heartedly looking for for years, and will make here much easier. Being that I could afford it, it needs tons of work and is probably one of the worst semi-functional examples of it's type in existence, but still better than what I had.

As for what it is, I'll tell along with pics tomorrow. For tonight, all I'll say is it's a diesel, six speed, 4x4, and built to work. The downside is it's made one of my Fords surplus so that one will need to get sold off now after a few quick repairs.

That would be nice, but not really 4x4.

That would be nice, someday maybe. Gotta get a lot of other stuff sorted out first.

That might be nice too, anything pre-AMC. Not this time, though.

Actually, the Ford that is being bumped is actually my LGT120 garden tractor, in favor of this:

It's a Yanmar 135D, two cylinder diesel and a bit larger than a garden tractor. The previous owner rebuilt the engine, but instead of gaskets used blue goo:

It's also dumping compression from the head gasket area, so it's all coming apart and getting gaskets put back in it. The blue goo is already leaking, especially along the oil pan gasket.

I think you needed a bigger trailer to bring it home. LOL.

That Yanmar is a pretty decent little diesel. John Deere used Yanmars in their CUTs, they still might. I think Cub Cadet did as well at one pointe.

Nawy---too cute to be on a smaller trailer----looks like a Prom Queen on a float it does.

So what's this new toy for anyway? A fixer-up or use as is on some monumental homeland project?

4x4... Is it an "on/off" thing or does it have a hi/lo range?

It's a bit different than an automotive system, basically it's a three speed with a high-low range. 4x4 is just an in and out thing.
I have a large garden, and currently have a Sears SS18 to work it, but it is severely limited by traction. It has tons of power, but can't get the power to the ground. With tire chains it just digs deeper holes. This Yanmar is less horsepower, but more torque, and with the diff lock, 4x4 and a little more weight it should be able to get more use from that power. Plus it has a PTO, opening up options for implements that just don't work with a Sears. A Sears Suburban is a great tractor, but I've kinda outgrown one.
