03' Escape Randomly Dies

My girl's 03' 6 cylinder Escape randomly gives her problems. She had issues last July and was good until this week. It laid down on her twice. She couldn't get it to stay running tonight so I went to get her.

The Problem: I cranked the car and it died right away. Everything checked out under the hood so I cranked it again. Died. I cranked it a third time with the gas pedal pushed in and it started up and ran. It would stay running as long as I feathered the throttle. I shut it down and looked under the hood again for about 5 minutes. Then went to crank it and it ran just fine. I drove it home and no problems.

It sounds like a coil problem, like what happens to weed eaters when the coil starts going bad. But, what do I know.

Any ideas on what the issue is or what I should start checking?

IAC - idle air control. When hot it does this after it cools off to a point everything is fine. Won't do it all the time, just when it feels like it. Something like $30 if I remember correctly.

$30, I will buy a dozen of them for $30 a piece and resell them for $50 and will ask you to get me more at that price, lol.

Cheapest IAC valve for a Ford Escape I seen was $73 at Advanced Auto. American made by I think Wells. Ford wants $153 and change for one.

I was told there are some imported ones you can get for about $45 or so, but the quality is not guaranteed.
