I have a 72 Ford F250 with a big block 460 and C6 transmission. The truck should be running for the first time this afternoon when I get the new fuel pump in SUPER STOKED been working on it for 3 years. I was hooking up the linkage to the transmission and noticed the shifter lever will not pull back (shift) correctly. I Put a shift kit inside it and everything inside the tranny is beautiful condition and put it back exactly the way I took it apart. The shift lever clicks back two times then goes forward all the way to the front as if there is only two gears. This cannot be correct. any help or advice is appreciated before I take the darn thing apart again. THANKS!
the C6 should have 6 detents.
park, reverse, neutral, drive, second, and first.
if you only feel 4 shifts for 5 gear positions, the trans may have a low gear lockout in it.
