Can It Be Ordered?

Hey guys! I drive 2 old trucks. Theyre great, but Im the kind of guy who doesn't always have time to fix stuff when it goes wrong. Lately... that's been the case. So I kicked around the idea of a new F-150. I browsed Fords website and tried to "Build My Own", only problem is, they don't offer what I want. Id love a regular cab, short bed, STX or XLT, 4x4. These are all very common options. BUT Id also like an EcoBoost. That's where its not possible. You have to either get a reg cab, long bed or an ext cab, short bed. Anyone know why? I cant figure it out!

you think since your gonna order it any ways they would make it how you want? The harness is the same wether its a XL or king ranch all the plugs are in there, and besides they have a little build sheet that tells them add chrome bumpers but leave the manual windows and door locks!

A RCSB EB is not an option. Not sure why as I'm sure there are more than a few out there who would probably buy one.

And SuperDutyScaler, to my knowledge XLs don't come with chrome bumpers. I looked on the Ford site and couldn't find that option anywhere.

That is not necessarily true. Including all of the wiring for every option is a waste of money.

If I can not get a Lariat with a 8 foot bed why should you be able to get a EB in your dream truck...

People running these companies are fools sometimes... You can build it your way as long as it's the way we tell you to build it..

Building a Ford Truck the way you want is TUFF...

My dealer buddy said they won't put the ecoboost in a short bed regular cab because a truck that short with that much power and torque would be too dangerous to drive. I tried to buy an XL RC 2X4 with the short bed and couldn't. I ended up with the long bed because I wanted the ecoboost. It is an absolute rocket and with the 3.15 gears I've averaged 21.6 mpg over the first 1200 miles. Getting almost 550 miles per tank of gas.

That answer ranks pretty high on the stupid meter.

Too much power?! What kinda answer is that lol. This is comin from the same people who made a Lightning. Funny thing is, theyd make equal power lol. I figured thered be a REAL reason as to why they wont do it, such as the tranny is too close to the rear axle or something along those lines...

Would a more real answer be itd give the Raptor a run for its money for cheaper

I agree it's ridiculous that you can't customize these trucks more. I would have gotten more mods myself but one mod came with many others which came with many more expenses!

A few people I have run into on a daily basis insist if you REALLY wanted you could order ANY of these F-150 trucks with a Standard Tranny. Is this true, cause I've never seen one? Maybe the basic XL model has that option?

Packaging options make for more efficiency on the assembly line which in turn keeps prices down. That's the stupid reason the do it.

It's not only that it keeps prices down it's that they can make us pay for things that we don't want just to get what we do want. So even more profit for them..

In my case I can't order what I want ( Lariat W/8 foot bed) so I'm forced to look else where for the truck I need. Or going down to a XLT and buying options. But not having much luck there either making the truck I want.

Or keep my old 2002 running as long as I can.. My plan for now.. I might even look into fixing the manifold leak this spring.

Ford's been like that since he said you can have a Model T in any color as long as it was black.

BUT he had a good reason for doing that.. What's the good reason for not offering the Lariat with a 8 foot bed?

for the same reason it is not offered on FX4, King Ranch, Platinum, or Limited.

an 8' box is generally associated with trucks that work hard for a living. construction, farming ect. Generally speaking, those people do not option up a truck to the levels offered above XLT.

that is to say, if they offered them and built them on spec, the would be one of the last trucks sold on the lot. a contractor is not going to pay extra for heated and cooled leather seats, navigation, backup cameras ect. for his guys to get all muddy, full of concrete, sand and gravel and ruin. he would only buy that kind of truck if he had no other options. and then, only at a discount.

if they built them on a "order only" basis, they would be building them one at a time and driving the cost up for everyone. ... not good business.

i'm not saying this to be mean, its just that i really doubt there is much call for that in the marketplace.

i would like a crew cab STX ... but i can't get that either. ... just the way it is, my friend.
