an 8' box is generally associated with trucks that work hard for a living. construction, farming ect. Generally speaking, those people do not option up a truck to the levels offered above XLT.

that is to say, if they offered them and built them on spec, the would be one of the last trucks sold on the lot. a contractor is not going to pay extra for heated and cooled leather seats, navigation, backup cameras ect. for his guys to get all muddy, full of concrete, sand and gravel and ruin. he would only buy that kind of truck if he had no other options. and then, only at a discount.

if they built them on a "order only" basis, they would be building them one at a time and driving the cost up for everyone. ... not good business.

i'm not saying this to be mean, its just that i really doubt there is much call for that in the marketplace.

i would like a crew cab STX ... but i can't get that either. ... just the way it is, my friend.
So I'm the only one that wants the comfort of a nice cab (heated and cooled seats) but needs to haul stuff around??

It's not like they don't already make a 8 foot box or a frame for a SCAB with a 8 foot box or a SCAB with a moon roof.. It's just that they will not allow me to build what I want with the parts they already have on hand that makes me mad..

I'm NOT saying that I want all the local dealers to have one on their lot waiting for me. But gee why can't I order one..

i'm not saying you are the only one. i'm just saying that you are one of few.

the market for an 8' box is thin to begin with, and those that need them buy them for work and they tend to get trashed. trashing a lariat would be throwing away good money. not to say that you would, but the majority of trucks with 8' boxes get pretty banged up. ... you should see mine.

we're just both in the minority.

all of these ARE offered in the SD line, just not the half-ton.

But I'm retired. I just need to haul stuff from house to cottage and back a lot of the time.. ( wife's garage sale stuff mostly she just keeps packing it in till it's full ) Don't need to carry much weight, just volume. And want good gas mileage, smooth ride. I should just buy her a nice covered trailer to keep everything in and get the 6.5 bed..

don't discount how handy an enclosed trailer is.
motorcycles and 4-wheelers fit very nicely inside a 6x12 enclosed trailer.

just sayin'

It's one of the accessories you can buy with the truck. Look for the fold out plastic gate that sits on top of an open tailgate.

You solved his problem but not mine lol. I guess I could buy a reg cab long bed then when its paid off take it in ot a shop to hack the frame down to short bed length and throw a bed on it lol. Expensive? You know it. You save $300 going from a long bed to a short. Do it yourself and your paying well over $300 lol

I did have the idea of buying a cheap Scab XL with the 8 foot bed and a Lariat Scab with the 6.5 bed and switching the cabs.. But think that the cost is a little to high just to get something that Ford should offer..

Yea only a fool would want to be able to carry a few 4'X8" sheets of plywood and some drywall up to the cottage without getting it wet. Along with the pet chickens in their cage, cat5s and all the wife's stuff. And I'm that fool...

you can still do all of that.

you'll just have to sit on cloth seats.

Have you considered just getting a truck with cloth seats then recovering them with leather seat covers? Theres some companies out there making high quality seat covers and, if installed right, look just as good as factory.

Stacey David used Katzkin seat covers on his Drag'N'Wagon on Gearz. It looked kick ***! Look em up
