I have a 2000 F350 4X4 with a 6.8 (V10) and a manual 5 speed. My problem is the throttle sticks very often but not all the time. It doesn't seem to matter what speed I drive it, either around town or on the highway the throttle doesnt want to return to idle when I release the accelerator and push the clutch in. When it does this I can firmly pat the accelerator pedal, usually once, and it will return to idle. If once doesn't do the trick twice will. Part of the linkage was rubbing a plastic cover on top of the engine and I thought that was the problem but I remover the cover and it continues to do the same thing. It kind of reminds me of the old days when the butterflies would stick on a carburetor. Any suggestions on what to do/check would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your input, thoughts, and suggestions.
jh818 might be on the right track - corrosion or crud will keep the butterflies open.
Easy test - remove the cover on the throttle body and push the throttle open with your hand. Back off real slow and see if it returns to the throttle stop screw. If it doesn't start removing the cruise control servo cable, then the throttle cable. If it still won't return all the way back to the stop screw, pull it and clean it.
Definitely on the right track, had the same issue with my throttle holding around 1800 rpm, a cleaned throttle body will do the trick, not so often that the cables gum up but i'm sure that can happen aswell
