120000 on stock pump. Not leaking but has me a little worried it's gonna leave me stranded.I want to change to eLC but hate to and lose all that spendy new coolant if the pump goes
I would replace it, they are cheap enough and you can also do the thermostat at the same time, then you know where you stand. Its a 2 hour job at most, Clay at riffraff has everything listed, Motorcraft thermostat, lower inlet Oring and the gasket is included with the pump. They are OEM International pumps. Aftermarket t-stats have been known to cause issues.
You could sure flush the system out good with the pump, plugs & thermostat out. For an extra $100 for the pump and a couple extra hours of time, you should get another 10 years of trouble free coolant system use. A win win for the motor & owner!
Trouble-free use is the reason people burn big money on transmissions isn't it?
Spend the money now if you can like I did, new hoses, t stat and pump. I like the piece of mind of not having to deal with little issues. We need to realize that the newest 7.3 is now hitting 10 years old. Bolt ons will start to show their age. To each is own but I like only doing jobs once. I did mine because it was used, and I didn't know if it was original or not, it's also a good indicator of how well the cooling system was maintained. If you look at the area behind the pump and see no pitting its usually a good sign!
