best water pump? also what else to replace at same time?
Hi everyone. Well the wifes excursion is pouring out antifreeze when topped off from the water pump area. What is everyone using to replace theres with? oem, after market, if aftermarket who? While open, what else should be replaced down there? I haven't had to do anything but a few oil changes in the year we owned it(thankfully) but the poor truck gets the worse type of driving done to it. She uses it to go back and forth to work and bring the kids to their activities(6 kids). She only works 3 miles from home and soon, just under 2miles roundtrip. When I drive it, it has a trailer and vehicle in tow 90% of the time.
What I was planning to replace was just the pump, belt and thermostat. Anything else on these trucks easier at this time that is a common wear part?
Thanx in advance

I recommend an airtex 4114 they can be had for 149 with lifetime warranty from o'reilly's. It is a 1 piece cast pump that eliminates the lower extension and gasket. While your at it go th www.dieselsite.com and get the billet alluminum thermostat housing and 203* thermostat.
Heres the pump

I like that pump that Alan posted of his. However if you ever need to remove the Oil Cooler from the engine, then it is a major pain to remove those front two bolts with a pump like that. Luckily my customer had the stock pump with the removable elbow. Made it much easier. I would aslo vouch for the Billet thermostat housing, and a 203* t-stat

I third (or fourth) the previous comments, especially about going ahead with the t-stat housing and 203°F stat. Another consideration you might want to think about is what I call the "tight shut-off" heater valve to help your air conditioning system provide colder air with the coming summer months. I beleive that dfuser has the kits for that valve installation.
BTW: ALAN... I found those tale-tale drip markings on the bottom radiator hose underneath the water pump. Not enough of a drip to actually end up dripping to the ground, but enough to stain the hose. it won't be long nowe before I'm chasing these same issues on a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.

While you have the water pump off is a great time to remove the CPS, grease the o-ring on it, and add some anti-seize to its retaining bolt's threads.
They're a bear to get off from underneath if they've never been off before, thus you may save yourself some grief when you actually have to replace it.
And you WILL have to replace it! ;-))

Word to the wise...
When you're working around that fan up front, be very careful because it will cut like a razor!! Mine will, at least. I have tiny knicks and cuts all over both wrists and forearms from this weekend, and a nasty deep gash on my left thumb from a slipped wrench that let my thumb quickly ride up the back edge of one of those wicked fan blades. And, NO, the fan was not running.
