Hey everyone, I have a 2008 f150 has the 5.4l. i put true duals on with a H-pipe and I'm running flow master 40s. I don't feel like this is loud enough. I am thinking about taking the mufflers off any suggestions on what to do?
Can you do the work yourself? I have a mig, and pulled the muffler from mine (3" cat back Gibson system), knowing that if I didn't like it I could weld the muffler back on and not be out anything but my time. Turned out that it was perfect, so I hung the tailpipe and welded it up, love it now... But that could get expensive if you're paying a welder to do this for you...

Depends on where you are at too...I'm from TX stationed in CA...sucks...lol
Anways, as long as you have no sound ordinance yuppies around you I'd get it as loud as you want. I would also sugesst Longtube headers if you dont go offroading at all... so you get that deep rumble too... I have shorties on mine and it came up a bit, and I'm running FM as well with a SI/DO turndowns...just not true duals..be sure to get your engine tuned as well!!

I guess by "sound ordinance yuppies" you mean any neighbor that worked hard all his life, finally retired, doesn't have to get up at 5:00 everyday,
and might like to sleep in a bit without some jerk with no mufflers firing up because he thinks it sounds "cool" ??

Yeah, THAT guy.
OP. Just cut a couple holes in the firewall and route the pipes from the manifolds into the cab. That will be nice and loud for you, and still not bother us ordinance yuppies.

Of course there is a limit to everything. With all respect due, you chose your lifestyle, work, education, and family. By 5:00, I'm sure you mean 5am, so being military (law enforcement) myself my alarm goes off at 0300 and my tires touch my driveway at 1900 on my way home(although usually later)..and that is the way it will be for another 14 years...Not to mention there is a whole lot of younger guys running even louder cars and trucks around on base...
If you have that problem, you should consult your neighbor if you see it or hear it. If that doesn't work seek out your local law enforcement to check the local sound ordinance regulations. If that doesn't work go to your town meetings and start one. Whenever the military has moved me I always check with the neighbors to see when they work. Not ALL of us are inconsiderate when it comes to how loud it gets.
Just for clarification, my post was aimed at CO2 SMOG testing...
I just had the factory muffler removed and replaced with a piece of pipe. I love the way it sounds. I have heard true dual set ups with mufflers that are louder than my truck. I am definitely not in danger of waking up my neighbors but my 04 has 4 catalytic convertors on it.
