I am looking at a couple of different programmers and was wondering if anyone has any good or bad experiences with either. I am looking at the Power hungry preformance CS and the SCT SF3 PowerFlash. Any help would be appreciated. BTW I have an 01 5.4 4x4 EXT Cab. Thanks.
I would take the SCT, and here is why. SCT has excellent support. You will have no difficulty finding others who use the SCT, and there are more people who know how to set them up correctly.
Do not expect any out of the box tune to give you great results. Out of the box tunes are conservative and generic.
I have the Edge Evolution CS and LOVE it, it monitors anything you need to, and if you know how to set up a CUSTOM tune you can. If you do not, it has good "out of box" tunes or you can find someone to do a custom tune with it. EVERY aspect of it is user programmable. Also they just added Data logging to them. Free updates and GREAT customer service. Highly recommend you check them out. Best price I found was from performance truck products, tuner and dash mounting pod was under 500 shipped
I trust SCT, used one on my 2001 F250 Powerstroke and it was great. Took about 30 seconds to a minute to change tunes, and once it did you could really feel the difference. It doesnt monitor anything but the upside is that people dont know your vehicle is tuned. There isnt an ugly add-a-pod on the dash and no wires to run or anything to install
Also, alot of people use it so they are easy to get custom tunes for
Thanks for the info, still a little unsure about these things. Has anyone had any mileage gains to report? I will probably get one with custom tunes right away, any suggestions, 89 performance, 89 tow? Thanks
I average 16 city and 20 hwy with my CS on level 2 that is up from 13 and 17, before the CS. Current mpg is according to BOTH the OHD and the CS displaying both instant mpg and AVG mpg.
Just the stock level 2 tune, I did however adjust the shift firmness, but nothing else. I run 87 octane and the truck currently has 259,xxx miles
Couple questions for you:
What diff gear ratio do you have, and was it difficult to adjust shift firmness (it is way too firm for normal driving)?
I have the same tuner in my 03 Screw with 3.73 gears, and after several years of tracking my economy, I average between 13.5 and 14.5 city and 15-17 HWY. My increase was only slightly better over stock running the level 2 setting.

Thanks,
Sorry for the hijack....
I believe it has the 3.73 never checked, 00 expedition EB 5.4 with factory tow pkg. Setting the firmness is easy when you set up the program there was a screen to " create custom tune" go it there and thats where all adjustments can be made, I set mine to 15%. Shifts are nice and quick, but not snappy/harsh definitely makes it more "fun". There is no longer that lag between gears its right there.
