Heya guys, I took the ole girl apart to do my STC fitting and noticed that the heat shield for the IPR is missing, how critical is the heat shield and do you think the IPR could have suffered damage by running it with it missing? She was running just fine I was just changing the fitting as a preventative measure.
Are you talking about the aluminum foil wrap with the snaps? Mine has it... 2006 F250
Josh
Yours is probably an early '06 truck built before January 2006. This also likely means your FICM mounting is the style that has the front bracket attached to the air intake as opposed to the later '06/'07 style that use four "UFO" shaped nuts. You probably also have the 'T' handle style oil dipstick as opposed to the yellow loop style dipstick. I know these are likely useless little details, but collectively they are how you differentiate between the early and late engines.

I just finished replacing my STC fitting and let me tell ya I have a profound respect for the guys that work on these trucks for a living, you have to damn near be a contortionist in a lot of places I found on this truck, your hands cant be too big, your arms have to be very long but not too meaty and your cardiovascular system better be up to snuff or you'll never get anything done due to fingers, shoulders, neck and back cramping, loss of feeling in your fingers causing the unwanted dropping of nut's, bolts, and wrenches. Needless to say I am glad that is over with.

Damn ------ it took me three days (my over head garage door broke during the repair and I had to fix it). I know what you mean about dropped nuts and bolts, I noticed after I was done one of my nuts dropped lower than the other two
I do know I hurt in places I didn't know you could hurt. The part that kicked my *** the worst was that f'in heat shield lol. But once I conceded defeat I finally unbolted the up-pipes ( twisting off 2 bolts in the process ) and it went fine after that.
