Hey guy's. A buddy of mine thought of the idea that i should make my truck 4X4. Now i actually want to do it. So far ive swapped the rear D70 out for a Sterling 10.25 dually w/ 4.10. And i want to do a 7.3l IDI/ZF-5 swap later next year. What is involved in a 4X4 swap? I know i have to change the front axle, and add leaf spring perches. What am i missing? And would an axle from a early 90's Ford work?
Ok, done some research, most guys cut off the front of the frame and weld on the front of a 4x4 frame... Not an option for me. I dont see hows its all that hard. Bolt on leaf spring hangers for the front. The steering sounds kinda tricky though. Do i need to relocate the PS Box? And the 7.3l i plan on swapping in will have over 350HP and 700LB-FT of torque when its done. But everyone has their opinions on the IDI.
