Flatbed? You need the 'big' butt look! When you are done it will be a pretty cool 4by4!
Hahaha i may be a big dude but you can call me a hypocrite, i like em on the smaller side But as for my truck, im flat bedding her haha. For all the stuff i do, it'll be better off. Part time welding rig, weekend toy, medium weight trailers, future horse hauler, moving hay, construction, etc. Just makes sense for me. Plus i love the way they look when theyre done right, and my bed is more on the trashed side lol.
Rob, I've been considering this myself, and you are correct on what you need. I think the 80s rear axles are the same, but I'm not 100% sure on that. If I do mine (ECSB), I'm gonna leave the short bed on it and do the hips! I found a pair the other day for $100. I think I can get them for less though .
That'll be something to see Bill! Theres a thread Brad did a while back when he did hos stepside dually, and i believe it has the pics and maybe measurements of where he dis hos fenders. But yah, short with hips is where its at LOL
So ive read all the threads i can find on it, and to my understanding the things needed to do the swap into a SRW are:
Dually axle out of a pickup (not Cab and chassis)
Front dually hubs
Wheels all around
Possibly change the yoke dependinging on what year axle i get
Anyone know if 80's DRW axles are the same as 90's DRW axles? Thanks for the help guys.
the sterling axles in the 80's (pre 1993) are first generation sterlings.they have the outdated shorter yoke and pinion.less desirable.however they are also, the only DRW pickup era for a direct bolt in,to offer 3.55 gearing (so i had no choice.to top it off,it had to be late 80's as that's when the ring tone was put in,and required for my e40d trans.)
since you sport 4.10's (as per your sig) i highly recommend you source the 93-97 drw pickup 2nd gen sterling rear axle.these are not hard to find.expensive.but you can find them.if a yard lists having one with 3.55's for a good deal, call on it anyway,as when they verify the ratio for you, you'll find it really sports 4.10's........trust me on this one lol.

So did they not make them in 3.55's? IF so, even if i found one with 3.55's would it be possible to swap my 10.25 4.10's into it or is that not possible? Because my LS in my rear end works perfect and has no wear...
you could buy a first gen sterling or a 2nd gen sterling with any ratio you want and then swap in your LS gear set.
but a DRW pickup rear is already going to set you back around 600-1000$
to pay someone to pull and set your gears in (correctly) would cost several hundred more.im not sure what kind of budget your working with, but id just stick with a 93-97 2nd gen 4.10 drw pickup axle.if you take your time, you'll find this combo with LS as well.
you could simply run a set of rear arrowcraft dually adapters and not even mess with a rear swap you know too?

From the local pick n pulls, a axle with everything but the brakes, which I'd replace anyway, is only about 150 bucks.

Well to run the wheel/tire combo i want i need to run a 2inch spacer in the rear, wouldnt that conflict with the adapters? Sorry for all the questions, im learning as I go lol
typically the srw axles go for $150-200 yes.even the cab n chassis (which can run dual wheels due to having a narrow frame and springs) sell for about that too.
the actually dually pickup axles don't sell for a dime a dozen like those axles.if they do give them away there, buy all of them that you see,and make some mad $!
she measures 59" strong between backing plates.this one set me back around $750 then i had to buy new brake hardware including drums.
