Yep, yours is a automatic. If you leave the automatic in drive or reverse and then shift the transfer case into 4 lo, you will have to pass through neutral. When the transfer case hits neutral it releases the output of the tranny and since you are in drive or reverse with the engine running, the tranny output will start turning and it will grind when you try to put it in 4lo. Then you go whoops! and try to put the tranny in park and you get more bad noises because the tranny is turning, and you are trying to put it in park.
The linkage on my case only moves forward and backward. In fully aware of how to get in ad out if 4lo I've owned a few older 4wd's. And my shifter isn't stuck
Image Shack is my favorite because they have an upload helper that will upload the image and shoot back the link info without having to go to the web site.
Also you can edit your own posts and correct typing errors.
Instead of only posting links, copy the IMG Code (or BB Code as it's sometimes called) and paste it into your post, the picture will show up inline in the post and no extra work required by the reader.

Then you've either got the New Process 208 or a Borg-Warner (I think they're either the 1345 or 1356).
With the New Process:
2H
4H
N
4L
With the Borg-Warner:
4L
2H
N
4H
I think I've got that right. Someone who has a BW will correct me if I'm wrong.
If it's popping out of gear, it might be time to open it up and see what's wrong/rebuild.
Sorry for the late reply guys. But here's the update. I pulled the casing and the inside was trashed so I bought another one installed it and now no issues. The reason I had a backwards pattern and no 4lo is because the linkage on the case was upside doreen. Thanks for all ur help!

Upside down? Wow! I wonder why it was like that?
I wonder if the PO had started to have problems and he/she started monkeying with it to see what they could do.
What transfer case does your truck have? Is it a NP208 or a B/W 1345?
