WOW

Just got off the phone with LMC.
I was ordering two clutch spring insulators. Total price $7.00.
Shipping charge $7.72.
So feeling that was a tad excessive for two parts that don't weigh anything and would fit in the smallest of envelopes, I called them to say "hey, I've ordered a lot of stuff from you and choked down your shipping prices before. How 'bout doin' a friend a favor and getting real on this one?"
I was told by the nice (not) lady that shipping prices are what they are and there's nothing I can do about it. And she said it with the "you idiot peasant" tone.
Now as some of you know I have always given them a fare break on criticism.
But as Billy Bob says, "you crossed the line".
They are now my last, last, last resort. And all my online buddies will hopefully think twice before ordering.
And take those stupid azz foam peanuts and shove 'em.

Ahh, I feel better.

Shipping prices at most places are out the roof and many places have a minimum shipping charge despite size. Thats why if I need small things, I usually end up bulking my stuff together so shipping prices reflect the actual package or see if a local parts store can get me one. I recently needed a blower motor resister and local Napa said they could get one next day from des moines which is only 3 hours from me and they said $10 shipping on top of a $20 part. Good thing i passed and local Oreillys had one in stock. Shipping has become outrageous all over it seems. I do make sure i shop around and get the shipping quotes.

I hear ya. I just ordered stuff from Rock Auto, front wheel bearings from zone A = $8 shipping, same brand rear bearings from shipping zone B + $8. I also had some hardware in my order that was like your parts; light, small, and cheap - shipping zone C + $8. Well, cancel that part of the order, I guess I'll get it locally for $2 more for the parts with no shipping.

EDIT: I should add that I just bought wheels from Discount Tire, the wheels were on sale and shipping was free. Doesn't make sense but I'll take it when I can get it.

My uncle orders lot of stuff from the john deere dealer, to get it the next day it comes ups. A package of 10 brass shims 4 inches square, ranging from 1 to 10 thousands thick cost $8.97 to ship. If he's in no hurry, and gets parts sent in weekly from the jd wearhouse, its free.

I say it all the time....the only people making money off of everyone are attorneys and shipping companies. I just shipped a small, grille hood bracket via UPS that couldn't have weighed more than 1 pound and in a small box to Canada. The cost was $35.00! Insane.

I live in Canada and shipping is a nightmare, half the time it would be cheaper to make the stuff my self.

Rock auto has some good prices, but the shipping they charge when things come from different zones is very high which cancels out the low prices. I have gotten most of my things locally and paid more for the part but ended up being cheaper when all said and done.

Yeah Marc, I agree. Unfortunately most places it seems the shipping charges don't match the part. That's always been one of my pet peeves with Rock Auto. If you order multiple parts chances are they're coming from different warehouse and you'll get two or three separate shipping charges. I ordered several different parts from them one time. One of the parts was a distributor ground wire. The part was eighty-three cents and the shipping was eight dollars! I cancelled that part of the order. The weight of that part would have to be measured in grams.
Unfortunately, like others have said, shipping nowadays has become very expensive and some businesses look at it as another profit center.
Your only defense is to plan ahead and shop around.
The crappy "customer service" you got from LMC is food for another thread.

Labor, packaging, and fuel costs!

Here's my tip... try to maximize the cost of your order but do not exceed the threshold which will put your order into the next cost range for shipping. For example, an order up to $49.99 worth of stuff may cost $10 to ship. However, the next penny will cost another $7 to ship thereby increasing the per unit cost of what ya just ordered.

Or head to the salvage yard or your favorite honey hole!!!

Agreed, except insulators are tough to find ind good/new shape.
But I'm with you, I'd much rather find it in a yard.

Canada is miserable for buying stuff online, if you can find what your looking for in Canada it's not too bad, but thats rare, most everything I look for on ebay comes out of the US. It seems as soon as it crosses the border shipping prices are doubled if not more.

Just today I was cruising Ebay looking for a set of injectors for my 2.3 mustang. I found a good deal at $75 for a set of four, but at a shipping price of $45. No thanks.

Turbohunter, I swear I have talked to the same grumpy woman at LMC. The front desk gal in hell is probably more friendly

One of the things that bothers me is mail order tires. I can find plenty of deals on tires but add the 20-30 each for shipping and it is not worth it. And why do all 4 tires have to be so expensive? I mean they are comming to my house with 1 tire so what's 3 more?? Same fuel & labor to get them there...

I agree, parts usually cost double what you fellas south of the border are paying. Oh well at least we have beautiful weather one month a year. Lol

On the good side, I ordered 4 new 18 inch wheels and 4 new 18 inch tires for my 78 F-150 2 wheel drive from Discount Tire, All the shipping was paid by them and had them in 2 days. On the bad side I am sure that the ladies at LMC are minimum wage employees and do what they are told to do and say......
