Hey guys. I saw a pretty awesome lookin F-350 yesterday that was almost identical to my '92, except mines a 250 lol. And the other major difference was it had a pretty good lift with nice lookin tires. That got me to thinkin: My 460 already gets crap for gas mileage and Iv got a 2nd truck I use as my DD, why not lift it? Heres my dilemma:
Im not gonna blow a ton of money just to jack up an old rusty tired truck. I figure my biggest expense to be tires.
I want it to look good, and not as much functional. I don't like our era of trucks that have 8" lifts and balloon tires. That's the look im trying to avoid. I figure 6" would be plenty. I feel like a 35" tire would be perfect (or 37" Military tire if the price is right and they look good) If I can fit a 35"ish tall tire with 3" of lift and not need to start relocating and extending stuff, Id MUCH rather go that route. I somewhat like the "stuffed" look anyhow!
And Im not 100% how to go about it. I haven't done any research whatsoever, but from the looks of it, itd be easy to remove the u-bolts off the axles, and install a 6" tall piece of steel. Viola! I know dang good and well this cant be that simple though. I figure longer driveshafts will be needed but what about steering components?
This truck will rarely, if ever, see off road use. Itd be purely for aesthetics, with the possible, occasional "Whoops... soft spot" drop it in 4 low and start modockin. So I don't need all the garb to enhance flexing and all that. If that's not possible, then the truck stays stock height and possibly some 33s in the future.
I'd look at doing maybe 4" lift and 35" tires if you liked a fuller wheel well. I happened to run across this truck this evening that I think looks great.
You're truck should already be a bit taller than a f150 anyway, so you would have even a bit more clearance than the truck in the pick. I don't know much what it takes to lift a truck like yours since it's leaf sprung... but I'm wondering what you could do with ad a leafs and shackles...
Whew that's very close to the look I want! Except that one is in tons better condition than mine lol. I figure with 4 inches, I shouldn't have too much of a problem with steering and such but idk
Iv been reading around and some guys say you can fit a 37 with 4-4.5" of lift but the bumper will need trimmed/shimmed and a rim with backspacing, which is ok with me. My bumpers rusty and dinged up anyhow lol. Can anyone confirm this?
