4.9 mustang engine swap

ok my buddy had a 83 f150 with a strong 351w and id figure id go throw it and clean it up, but then he's like you take one you have to take both so now i have a 96 mustang 4.9fi someone said throw that in my 1985 f250, so basicly im wondering if any one has done this or thought of doing it, so maybe some input would help me make the choice on rebuilt 5.8 or fuel injected 4.9 , Thank you

Are you speaking of a Mustang 5.0L ? I know technically they are 4.9L V8's but Ford never sold them as such, I guess so as to not confuse the I-6 and V-8.

I don't get it, you have a strong running 5.8 and you want to swap it for a 4.6 or 5.0? This makes no sense so you're going to have to clarify.

You would have to transplant both engine and transmission because it uses a different trans bolt pattern than the old windsors, and those transmissions are completely computer controlled so you would also need to transplant the complete EFI system and wiring harness, swap in a late model rear axle with a VSS sensor, change the dash cluster to one with a PSOM, and convert your truck to 2wd because sadly Mustangs were never available in 4wd.
