Shelby,
You have a built in "thermistor" or a protection device that doesn't allow the switching mechanism to burn up or start a fire if someone, usually a child, holds the lock button down for extended times. This unit is heat sensitive and will start to show signs of failing first in warmer temps.
If it's really cool out, they have a tendency to still operate once in a while.
If that's happening to you, that's a good place to start.

2000 Expedition, A/C stoped working.
215,600 miles
Was told the it is called the black death.
Said the lines on the A/C system get cloged over the years
and need to be replaced.
By a qualified ford mec.
Any ideas?
Pappy, see you are new and to lv2 race's point, start your own thread for others to see, listing problem under "title."
Ck that your a/c clutch engages, your system isn't leaking and low with freon, knowing you have a low pressure sensor to protect it from running if low.
It could be simple fixes once checked if not a bad compressor, etc.
