Quad shocks

I've got quad shocks in the front and decided I only want to replace one set, either forward of the axel or rear of the axel. I've read this will smooth the ride out. Which do you replace the forward or rear of the axel. Thanks.

Just replace them all at once. Shocks aren't that expensive.

Yeah, I was going to do that but then started reading that replacing only one would smooth the ride out, so thought I'd try that first. Can't find the article that state which was the Aux shock and which was the primary.

That's a good thought, but I treat shocks like I do brakes, headlight bulbs, and tires. All in pairs.

I think he wants to eliminate two of the four front shocks, for a better ride supposedly. That would be removing one on each side, LOL! The question is does he remove the front pair of front shocks or the rear pair of front shocks. Personally, my '86 4x4 w/quads & sway bars rode quite well.

I would think you'd remove the front pair, in front of the spring.

As ncranchero pointed out, the shocks in front of the axle are the "auxiliary" pair.
