What is the difference between shocks and struts? I plan on replacing the shocks and struts on the wife's tribute and found the struts are twice the price of the shocks.
Functionally is there a difference?
Do the struts last longer last longer?
I've replaced lots of shocks but never a strut. I read somewhere that's it's a good idea to have the alignment done after replacing struts. I've been unable to find a manual for her 2003 so I haven't been able to read up on the replacement process and what all is involved.
Struts not only function to dampen ride motions (as do shocks), but they are also an integral part of the suspension (taking the place of an upper A-arm), and bear weight. Shocks only dampen ride motions.
