Is this normal?

I let my new to me truck run a little more "freely" this weekend. (had a another smaller truck try to cut me off) and now my fuel economy according to the dash readout has improved. I also notice that she seems to move a little easier on start up.
A coworker says that I "cleaned" out the turbo, and I need to do it on a fairly regular basis.

Is this normal, or is it just an assumption?

Thanks,
Chris

Its good to blow the carbon out of it once in a while, helps exercise the turbo vanes as well.

Normal

Its good to do a WOT run sometimes

Basicaly what you want to do is make the Turbo Veins Go threw a Full Range of Motion this will keep them freed up (Diesel Fuel dont burn as clean you get SOOT)

Now say you drove like My Great Great Great Grandma over time the veins and Unisone ring will collect soot and the Veins start to stick

After you get used to you can make turbo go threw full range motion by Hitting accelerater pedal just right instead of going 120mph down the road (But thats always Fun Too LOL)

We have a VGT Turbo basicaly its veins inside turbo that move to make More or Less Turbo Pressure

Also Good to run truck every few weeks if not daily driver cause the Unisone ring/Veins can rust and get stuck too

You DO NOT Want Stuck veins most common would be OverBoost when they stick this can Lift Heads off the Deck then you get to do a head Job

SO Just KEEP DOING this Turbo excersise you wont have any problems

Today I had a mechnaic do a test ride- (okay he needed to get parts, and I wanted his opinion)

He said based on the low fuel economy (8 mpg) and a very quick speed response on the accelerator... I need to have the computer chip re-loaded to "stock", or I will have problems when I tow heavy trailers.

So how easy is it to "re-load"? Is this something I could do?....
And He said I need to add a few gauges, (he mentioned this site for info)...
What gauges do I need to add first?

Thanks in advance, this 6.0 is a LOT different than the diesel I had back in the 90's.

New to the 6.0,
Chris

Is your 6.0 tuned? If you have the tuner you can return to stock. Otherwise ford would have to re program your pcm. A scan gauge 2 or other solution of gauges will do. But, if you want a pyrometer for exhaust gas temp you need a seperate gauge or a monitor that allows you to add like an outlook monitor, edge product or others. Another option is a simple gauge pod for egt, trams temp, fuel pressure. But this doesn't get you all the other parameters like engine and coolant temps, ficm voltages, ECT that scan gauge does.

I don't know- just bought the 350 three weeks ago.

But, looks like (according to mechanic today) there is something programed for responsive speed control.

But I really bought the truck as a heavy tower, Bought a boat last year.

You know, a hole in the water you have to throw money in...
