Besides rebuilt heads which needs to occur, is there anything I can do besides drive slower? Cruising on the freeway, the 390 starts rattling (its version of lugging?) at about 3000 rpm especially climbing a hill.
Are there any good threads on setting the timing on a pretty much stock 390? I figured out how to check to make sure the advances are working properly but where should the dizzy be set?
Thanks for the link... By reading it the symptons seem to be more along the lines of the vacuum being adjusted a tad to much. I can cruise at 3000+ rpms with very little noise but under the extra lugging of a hill or hard acceleration it gets noisy. Idk maybe its a bit of both.
It sounds like this is something worth doing a good once over on though so I will.
