Question Door Realignment

Hi folks, first time post to forum but have been "reading the mail" for several weeks. This is a great forum.

I have a '94 F-150 and the driver's door is slightly out of alignment with the strike post, making the door more difficult to shut than the passenger door. Looking at the hinges and strike post, I don't see any provision for adjusting the door alignment. Hopefully, it's not like the '87 Plymouth Caravelle we used to have where you actually had to bend the hinges to align the door (no foolin').

What is the procedure for aligning the door? Thanks in advance for your help.

take it to your local body shop and they have a tool that realigns the doors. it takes like 5 minutes and they probably wont charge you. thats what i did with my 94.

Why is it out of alignment? Is it sagging? there is play in the door hinges when you loosen the bolts so you can move them around. If it's sagging, like they all do there is a fix for that. You can buy replacement hinge pins at the local auto parts store. I put 3/8 flat washers between my door and lower hinge. The striker also has lots of adjustability when loosened up.

It's easiest to pull the back edge of the fender out - that gives you access to the bolts for the door hinges. The Haynes manual shows how to do it, and if you click my signature link and look in the GP Auto pics album, there's a pic of me adjusting mine that way. First, align the door to the body so no light shows thru the gasket. Then align the strike so it holds the door there. Then align the fender to the door so it has an even gap and the door doesn't hit it.

Thanks for the tips, all. The door is sagging a bit, about 3/32" or so from where it should be. I'll first try loosening up the striker and see if I get enough adjustment out of that. If that doesn't do it, I'll consider the other options mentioned. Appreciate the help.
