Power Steering pump

My power steering pump is leaking and I'm going to replace it. But I remember reading on the board before about particles that get into the power steering system when a part goes bad and that they will tear up a new part you put on as well. Did I just imagine that or does someone know what I"m talking about? Should I put a filter on my power steering lines or buy a scrap yard pump as it will only have a short life anyway? Or should I just replace the fluid in the power steering system and feel safe? Any advice? Thanks.

Power Steering pump

I would just replace the pump and let it go at that. You will be replacing most of the fluid with a pump change anyway. That, and if leaking is your problem, your pump has probably not fragged anyway. The thing you are describing is much more likely to happen to an auto trans than a ps pump.
